The 'Perfect' idea for a Father's Day Ecard
We have just added a new Fathers Day E card to Katie's Cards website. The concept was to have it styled like a 1950's advert, but with our 'Dad' having some subtle human traits that slightly contradict the text.
There are six other E cards for Fathers Day available, so hopefully you will find one that suits. We have also created a version of this design to work as a Birthday Ecard.

Have a great Easter Weekend
I am sure everyone is looking forward to the long weekend, its the perfect time to be spending time with family or friends to celebrating Easter. I have packed some bags and that includes the chocolate eggs for my kids as we are going away for a few days holiday. This year has been quite busy so far, as we have been working away creating new ecards for katiescards.com and I do feel that I deserve a little rest. I am really looking forward to enjoying some long country walks, fun Easter activities, tasty pub lunches and relaxing evenings around the fire reading a good book and spending time with my loved ones.
Do you have any interesting plans for the spring Easter break? I would be interested to know what you are up to, and how you choose to celebrate Easter, however unusual or unique. Be it a quite weekend at home or a trip away somewhere nice, I hope you have a lovely time. Send Easter E-cards this Spring
The main events through the year that seem to be most popular with E cards senders have traditionally been Christmas, Birthdays and Mother's Day. Another annual event that appears to have become overlooked is the Easter holiday, but it is actually the perfect occasion to send a wonderful Easter Ecard. At this time of year when we think about and spend time with family and friends, and all those who are close to us, especially the small ones in our lives, who look forward to receiving tasty chocolate Easter eggs.
Sending a fun and warming Easter E-greeting out to everyone we know is a great way of letting them know you are thinking about them, without the trouble and expense of buying, writing and posting lots of printed cards. With a few swift clicks of your mouse, and a couple of well chosen typed sentiments, and voila! Easter wishes sent out to all.

Companies shift to sending Business Ecards
At Katie's Cards, apart from the personal animated e card memberships, we also offer a service to companies and organizations. For the past three years we have created hundreds of Company Christmas Ecards, and every year there seems to be more and more demand. They are a very cost effective and carbon neutral way of sending out Seasonal Greetings, especially if their mailing list is hundreds or thousands of contacts.
In 2010 we launched a new section of the website, where companies have the opportunity to select a static or animated ecard, upload their logo, message, URL and mailing list and for a relatively low cost, send their personalized Ecard out through the website.
In 2011 we plan to extend the service beyond just Xmas Ecards, rolling it out to meet business needs throughout the year, why not send a business ecard for the launch of a new product or service, to notify clients of a move to a new location or to reward and motivate staff. There are a myriad of events and occasions where a corporate ecard is the perfect solution.

New Maple Leaf Canada Day Ecard
Canada Day is a new category for Katie's Cards and we have just added our first Canada Day E card which features animated patterns made up from a leaf design.
The animation is accompanied by the official Canadian National Anthem and the maple leaves dance and swirl around in time. We hope that this card is popular on Canada's most special of days.

Dancing Painted Eggs and Rabbits, must be the perfect Easter Ecard?
Have you ever wondered why rabbits and eggs are seen together on Easter E cards?
Apparently, an Anglo-Saxon legend tells how the Saxon goddess Eostre found a wounded bird in the woods and transformed it into a hare so that it could survive the Winter. Strangely the hare found it could lay eggs, so it decorated them every Spring and left them as offering to the goddess.
At Katie's Cards we just love dancing decorated Easter eggs and fluffy bunnies, so we could not resist filling our new Easter E-card with them. Inspired by the fabulous films of Busby Berkeley and influenced by the crazy antics of Austin Powers with it's cool 1960s sounding music track.
We hope you enjoy sending it to all the young ones in your family or one of the other eight ecards.

Why do we celebrate Mother's Day?
Many people assume that Mother's Day was thought up by one of the large printed cards manufactures, of big florists, but to find the historical origins we have to go way back in time.
The earliest recorded day to honour 'mothers' date back to the spring festival the ancient Greeks dedicated to Rhea, the mother of many deities, and also to the offerings the Romans made to their Great Mother of Gods, Cybele. It is also believed that many Christians celebrated a special festival on the fourth Sunday in Lent in honor of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
In England the religious holiday was subsequently expanded to include all mothers and was named Mothering Sunday. Workers would return to their homes on Mothering Sunday with gifts, or special cakes for their mothers. The whole family would attend church together and a lavish dinner of roast lamb, or veal was prepared, at which mother was treated as queen for the day and everything was done to make her happy and comfortable.
The custom of celebrating Mothering Sunday became common practice during the 19th century. The day was celebrated with a festive mood and the dish of the day was called furmety. It consisted of wheat grains boiled in sweet milk, then sugar and spice was added. In recent times, as society has evolved the day is now generally referred to as Mother's Day in many western countries.
The above mentioned 'mothering cake' also went by the name of Simnel cake, similar to a Christmas cake. It was first boiled in water and then baked and it sometimes had an almond icing at other times the crust was of flour and water, coloured with saffron, but usually it was covered in a layer of marzipan, then toasted, and eaten during the Easter period. A layer of almond paste was also baked into the middle of the cake and the top of the cake, around the edge, were eleven marzipan balls to represent the disciples of Jesus with Judas omitted. In some variations Christ was also represented on the cake by a ball placed at the middle.
In the United States, Mother's Day has been observed for over 150 years. Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian housewife, organised a day to raise awareness of the bad health conditions suffered by many in her community, a cause she believed would be best served by the local community mothers, she called it 'Mother's Work Day'. It did not take long to spread all over the states, the governor of West Virginia issued the first Mother's Day proclamation in 1910 and Oklahoma followed suit and celebrated it in that same year. By 1911, all of the states in the Union had its own Mother's Day celebrations.
Anna's daughter, after her death (who was also called Anna) began to lobby prominent businessmen and politicians including Presidents Taft and Roosevelt to support her campaign to create a day in honor of the all mothers. At one of the first church services organised to celebrate Anna's mother in 1908, Anna handed out white carnations which happened to be her mother's favorite flower. A few years later, the House of Representatives adopted a resolution calling for officials of the government to also wear a white carnation on Mother's Day. In 1914 Woodrow Wilson finally signed a bill creating Mother's Day as a national holiday and it has been an entry on the spring calendar ever since.
People observed Mother's Day by attending church, writing letters to their mothers, and also by giving greeting cards, presents, and flowers. With the increasing prevalence in gift giving activity associated with Mother's Day, Anna Jarvis became very angry, she believed that the day's sentiment was being sacrificed at the expense of business greed and profit. Despite Jarvis's misgivings, Mother's Day has flourished in the United States and all over the world and has become one of the years biggest celebrations with a large associated industry providing cards, gifts and flowers.
Mother's day is a wonderful way of thanking your Mother for all she has done for you and many people show their thanks in different ways with cards and gifts, chocolates, flowers, breakfast in bed, days out or even weekends away.
