A few things you never knew about April

Though it's hard to believe that it's already mid-April (especially with the weather refusing to cheer up!) we thought it would be the perfect time to share some of our surprising April facts. Firstly, if you were born in April (and there always seems to be so many birthdays at this time of year!) then here are some fun facts about your birth month:

- The flower associated with April is the sweetpea, one of my personal favourites.
- The star signs that cross over in April are Aries (21st March - 20th April) and Taurus (21st April - 20th May).
- The birthstone this month is the diamond.

So, where did the word April come from? April comes from the Latin word 'Aperire'. The Romans gave this name to the month because this is often the time of year when animals come out from hibernation, flowers start to blossom and birds leave the nest. This year, however, this all seems to be happening a little more slowly due to the chilly temperatures that have remained in many countries.

There always seem to be so many birthdays in April so, if you know anyone who has a birthday this month, then go ahead and send them a Katie's Cards birthday ecard. It's sure to bring a smile to their face, even if the weather won't...

16 days left until the London 2012 opening ceremony! 2012.07.11.

The London 2012 Olympic's are almost here!

Many people across the globe are gearing up for this fantastic event,  especially those who live in England, who have been anticipating it since 2007 with construction of the new Olympic park and re-generation of the surrounding area since work began in May 2008.

A huge project, the site contains the huge Olympic stadium, Aquatics Centre, the Olympic village which is used for accommodation for athletes, a Velodrome and a white water centre. Take a look at this fantastic time-lapse video taken by the Olmpic committee, which shows you the stadium and surroundings under construction to completion;

The opening ceremony is always a very entertaining beginning and a chance for the hosting country to show their interpretation of the meaning and importance of the games.

The London 2012 opening ceremony has been spearheaded by Danny Boyle who has been appointed Artistic Director of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. The theme and name of the opening ceremony is 'Isles of Wonder'. It will commence at 9pm on Friday the 27th of July and will sure to be entertaining. Danny said:

'Our Isles of Wonder salutes and celebrates the exuberant creativity of the British genius in an Opening Ceremony that we hope will be as unpredictable and inventive as the British people'

I'm sure many of you will agree that this is definitely something to celebrate and enjoy with loved ones. Its not too late to organise your own opening ceremony party or get together so why not take advantage of our specially designed, London 2012 e card and send your loved ones an invite to your themed party?
