Poor Plum (my mischievous Jack Russell) injured her ear. 2011.11.28

Hi all,

What a weekend! We had an eventful one after taking Plum out for a weekend walk. She ran off and went missing for an hour and whilst I desperately tried to find her, she injured her ear. The poor thing had a tear in her ear and so I had to rush her straight to the vet.

The poor thing had to have a bandage bless her.

She is fine now thankfully and will only need a bandage for a day more but she gave us a bit of a scare. She is so mischievous that little dog of ours, though not as mischievous as Fenton – the famous dog who's video has gone viral on You tube!

Have you got any stories about your pets you want to share?

30 days until Christmas – did you know that we also make corporate e cards? 2011.11.24

Hi all,

For a few years we have provided a corporate ecard service to businesses who have approached us after seeing our cards and want to send them to their staff or customers. After being approached by companies year after year, we decided to build a dedicated section of the website for corporate e cards and now have quite a large collection!

We have tried to keep the Katie's Cards style but have also made some that are more suitable for business which are smart and professional looking. Our range includes low-cost static and animated cards and we have something for every business, from corporate and smart, to traditional to humorous and we have also included some of our more popular ecard games in the range.

If you would like to find out more about what we can do for you, please take a look at the corporate pages of our website here: www.katiescards.com/company and do ask if you have any questions!

New Thanksgiving and Christmas Ecards From Katie's Cards. 2011.11.23.

2011.11.23

Many consumers are opting to send animated e cards this Christmas because they are very cost effective and eco-friendly which means there is now a demand for a wider range of e card styles to choose from. To satisfy this need, Katie's Cards are continuing to create a large variety of styles suitable for all ages, tastes and occasions and have just released 3 new seasonal and Christmas e cards:

Thanksgiving e cards

The beautiful new Thanksgiving card is called ‘Leaf Waltz’ and is a tasteful animation of fallen autumn leaves dancing around in the winter wind. The animation is accompanied by Sonata a Quattro No.3 in C Major, composed by Gioachino Rossini, making it the perfect greeting to send to your adult friends and family to wish them a happy Thanksgiving.

Also new, the ‘Turkey Shoot’ e card game has a completely different feel. An ideal e card to send to any fun-loving friends or relatives, the game is set to fun country music and involves the player shooting Thanksgiving turkey's as they jump from behind obstacles. Try out this card here.

The new cards join the rest of the Thanksgiving collection which includes a wide range of cards ranging from the humorous, to the traditional and modern in style. View the Thanksgiving collection here.

New Christmas e cards

‘Runaway Turkey’ is a new Christmas e card game in which the player has to help an escaping turkey from the clutches of a hungry farmer that is chasing it by jumping over obstacles which appear in its path. This is a fun and light hearted e card game and a great way to wish loved ones a merry Christmas.. Try out this e card game here.

Christmas tips 3: Decorations. 2011.11.21.

Hi all,

Today I am giving you some of my Christmas decorating tips. Please share them with your friends and let me know if you have any additions to the list by posting a comment!

How to create easy, cheap and inventive Christmas decorations:
  • Before you start doing anything make sure you buy lots of festive looking ribbons. You can pick up large reels of ribbon from most sewing shops for a small cost but if you can't find one nearby, then go online! Ribbons are brilliant for decorating many things including presents, ornaments, fireplaces etc. You can also pick up some buttons for decoration.
  • Don't by ready-made candle decorations - make them yourself. Buy plain candles and add your own holly, ribbons and mistletoe. This is a much cheaper way to decorate and you will be creating something only you have on display!
  • Collect pine cones, branches and holly from outside.
  • Make your own Christmas wreath using the branches you collected, just tie both ends together with string and add your desired decorations like ribbon, tinsel, ornaments, spray paint etc.
  • Spray your pine cones silver or gold (or another colour) and either display them in a bowl or large glass vase or attach string to them and hand them off your tree.
  • Lay holly and branches on your fireplace.
  • Buy a roll of brown paper and wrap your presents with it. Use your beautiful ribbons to make the wrapping pretty along with sprigs of holly and mistletoe and cinnamon sticks!
  • Save money and the environment by sending Christmas ecards this year. Send unlimited cards for a small subscription fee and save on average over £15 on traditional greetings cards!
Please share these tips and let me know if you have any to add to the list!

Christmas tips 2: Planning your Christmas lunch. 2011.11.18

Hi all,

Here is the 2nd in my list of Christmas tips. Today I am looking at the good old Christmas lunch and things that you can do to try and elliminate the stress that it can cause.

Here are some of my tips which can help it go smoothly. I hope you find them useful and please post a comment if you want to add any of your tips!
  • Write down a list of your Christmas lunch guests.
  • Try to estimate how much food you will need per person and then estimate the cost of the food.
  • Once you know what you will be eating, make sure to order your meat well in advance to avoid di disappointments.
  • To reduce the overall cost, give each guest an item to bring along to the lunch, for example each guest could bring one part of the meal or each guest could bring one bottle of wine they like.
  • Make sure to pick up all of the non-perishables on the list very soon after writing your shopping list. This means that you only have to shop for the perishables at a later date, but try to avoid doing his on Christmas eve as supermarkets are a nightmare! If possible, order your shopping online - it is a hassle free way of getting the things you need though you do need to remember to do it in time.
  • Think about how you want your day to pan out and then plan what time you want your guests to arrive. I like to give the family some time to relax in the morning so if we're having guests, I usually ask them to arrive for 12.
  • Choose the time that you want to serve food by and then plan backwards, making a day timetable as you go.
  • Delegate, delegate, delegate! Give each of your guests a task to complete.
  • If you want to be waited on hand and foot, book a restaurant! (but remember to do it early!).
  • Invite your guests to your special lunch using a Christmas ecard.

Happy birthday Prince Charles! 2011.11.14

Hello all,

Did you know that today is Prince Charles' 63rd birthday?

Well I couldn't let it go by without wishing him a very happy birthday as he has contributed soo much to society today. The Princes Trust, which was set up by him in 1976 is now the leading charity for disadvantaged youths in the UK and does a huge amount of work.

I know he is a keen gardener, so if I was his friend, I would definitely send him the 'Gardener' birthday ecard from our collection.

Walking in Hebden Bridge. 2011.11.10

Hi all,

A few weeks ago we took a short trip to visit my brother in Hebden Bridge for the weekend. The area is so beautiful that I just had to take some pictures of the scenes whilst we were out walking that I thought I would share with you of us and the countryside:

<img src="filename.gif" alt="Ecards"<img src="filename.gif" alt="e cards"

Things are getting very busy here at Katie's Cards as we lead up to Christmas and we are making great headway on our new Christmas ecards which I hope you will love!

Here is a little reminder of an old Christmas ecard:

Last post dates for 2011 - 2011.11.09

Hi everyone,

For those of you in the UK, here is Royal Mail's last postage dates for 2011. As you can see, some of the dates have passed or are very near! But don't worry, as e cards can be sent in a matter of minutes, you can still send all of your loved ones a Christmas e card that they will receive on the day you schedule delivery! This is a brilliant reason to choose to send ecards to your loved ones this year.

Another great reason to send your loved ones a Christmas ecard is that they can save you money. It costs 46p for a first class stamp in the UK, so if you have over 30 Christmas cards to send, this is going cost you at least double the cost of a Katie's Cards subscription, on top of the price of your Christmas cards. A subscription to Katie's Cards only cost £7 and for that you can send as many cards as you like for a whole year!

Hi there,

We have a brand new Thanksgiving e card on the website for you to send! We hope you like it!

This new ecard was inspired by the amazing season that Thanksgiving celebrations are held in. The animation shows the beautiful fallen orange, red and brown leaves falling and then being caught by the wind and twirling around performing a waltz.

Set to the beautiful notes of Rossini's Sonata a Quattro No.3 in C Major, our new Thanksgiving ecard is perfect to send to all of your loved ones.

Here is a preview of the card below. Let me know what you think!

Katie's Cards website development

Hi everuone!

It is freezing here and feeling very wintery indeed! I love this time of year but do wish it was a little warmer for my walks with Plum!

Thanksgiving, and Christmas are getting very close. Have you started doing your planning yet?

Here at Katie's Cards we have been doing a lot to prepare for the festive season. We are about to launch the new developments on our website which have been added to help you with the festive planning!
These developments include some brand new features which have been designed to make your life a bit easier. There is a new 'bulk upload' tool which allows you to add up to 100 contacts to your address book in one swift go as well as the addition of a Facebook application which allows you to connect with your Facebook profile to send your Facebook friends e cards and gives your birthday reminders.

Another great way to stay on top of the planning this year this festive season is to pre-schedule your ecards to be delivered on a date of your choice in the future. This can be done from your personal membership account and it is so easy and quick - exactly what we all need at this time of year! E cards are a great way to send personal greetings to loved ones across the globe as they are quick to organise, cheap to send and environmentally friendly.

Please do let me know if you have any questions or need any help with your account. Remember, we are always happy to help you get the most out of your Katie's Cards membership!

I hope your Bonfire night goes with a BANG!

Hi everyone,

Its very close to the end of the working week and I am very looking forward to having a nice relaxing weekend after a busy week working on some new Christmas e cards and Thanksgiving e cards.

As its Bonfire night this Saturday we've been invted to go to a party at a friends house who live near Kew Gardens. I am very much looking forward to it as lots of our friends will be there with their children and there will be lots of delicious Bonfire night food!

I think fireworks make everyone feel excited, especially children and that’s why I made a birthday e card with fireworks on when we first started out. If you haven't seen it, then take a look here.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Let your kids help with Thanksgiving preparations.

Hello,

As I am a mum myself, I know all too well that organising big events with kids can be tricky.

I have always been a firm believer that getting them involved in the event is the best way to keep them entertained. After all, you not only entertain them, but you also get a little help that you didn't have before!

If your children are a bit older, then it is nice to get them involved with the preparation of the food but you might need an alternative and that is why I was delighted to come across these:

Make Thanksgiving party hats

Thanksgiving place cards

Not only will they help to give them something fun to do, but the end result will be lovely!

Please let me know if you try either of them and do send pictures if you would like to see them on the blog!

Katie's Cards members in the U.S. will most probably be getting prepared for Thanksgiving now. For those of you who don't celebrate, its on the 24th of November, so I thought it was the perfect time to share some nice recipes I have found with you.

I found this great set of recipes on the Better Homes and Gardens website here - http://www.bhg.com/thanksgiving/recipes/thanksgiving-recipe-ideas/#page=1.

My favourites from the collection are:

Sweet potato and corn bread stuffing

Candied Yams

Roasted baby beets

Looking at the pictures is making me feel very hungry!

Thanksgiving is coming, the turkey is getting fat (and trying to escape!)

Hello everyone,

I hope you're all well and you enjoyed the Halloween celebrations as well as sending some Halloween ecards!

Now onto Thanksgiving and then Christmas!

We've got started on the new Christmas e cards and have nearly finished the new Thanksgiving ecards now and I am really looking forward to showing them to you! There will of course be a new Turkey breakout card (a version for Thanksgiving and a version for Christmas), but this year it has a twist and has transformed itself into a game for all to play!

It will be with you very soon and is the perfect way to kick off both Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations and spread some holiday cheer!

In the mean time though, here is a little reminder of Turkey Breakout 2 to put a smile on your face!
