Hi all,

I made this 'I Love Ewe' Valentines Day ecard a few years ago as I wanted to make something that was light-hearted and humorous that could be sent either your love interest but also to other loved ones to raise a smile. The e card was made up of a series of references to famous romantic films - can you spot them? Take a look, the first person to tell me how many and what film they are from (by posting a comment on this blog) gets a free 1 year subscription!

Great customer service goes a long, long way. 2012.01.26

Hi all,

Fans of the Katie's Cards Facebook business page will have seen that I shared a post from Racheal which she thought I would like. The post was of a photograph of a letter written on behalf on Lily Robinson aged 3 and a half to Sainbury's about their Tiger bread and had a picture of the wonderful response from Sainsbury's (see below):

Correspondence from Lily to Sainsbury's

These two letters delighted me and I couldn't resist sharing them with the Katie's Cards fans!Firstly Lily's letter is fabulous and I love the fact that she asked this question - what a bright young girl she must be! But mostly, the response from Sainsbury's is delightful and I'm sure that Lily was very pleased.

This is a fantastic example of the high quality customer service that I love and that I aspire to for Katie's Cards. I believe in this digital age it is incredibly important to have a human response to build trust. It instills confidence and comfort to know that you can ask a person to explain something to you if the need ever occur. We've all been in a position at one point or another whereby our expectations have not been met when purchasing a service or product and that is not a positive position to be in. It instills confidence and comfort to know that you can ask a person to explain something to you if the need ever occur.

I just wanted to share this with anyone who didn't see my post yesterday. It brought a smile to my face and I'm sure it will to yours!

Light hearted birthday fun. 2012.01.24.

Hello,

A bit of fun is a great way to raise a smile on any occasion and fun is definitely on the menu for birthday time and this is exactly the reason that we like to make a very wide selection of birthday ecards for your to choose from which include cheerful and fun styles.

In the name of fun, I thought that I would share this great website with you. You put your date of birth in it and it tells you the number 1 song on that day! My song was Wonderland by The Shadows. Have a try - its good fun! Click here to visit the website.

Once you find out what song was number 1 you can then order a specially framed and personalised record as a gift, though they are quite expensive.

Please leave a comment and let me know what your song is! Below is a fun birthday e card from Katie's Cards that you might like to send to someone who has a birthday coming up. I hope you like it!

Romantic ideas for Valentines day. 2012.01.23.

Hi all,

Valentines day is celebrated all over the world by people who like to show their feelings of love by sending romantic messages with gifts of love poems, flowers, chocolates and an assortment of other gifts.  People like to lavish their loved-ones with romantic evenings spent in restaurants, hotels or at home with special food, candles and champagne.

As the sentiment of Valentines day is showing how much you love someone (or your interest in them romantically) there is no need to spend £100's on gifts and, if planned well, you can have an extremely romantic Valentines day without overspending. Here are some ideas of my own to help you plan. I hope you find them useful, and please comment if you have any ideas you would like to share!

Katie's top tips for an inventive, romantic, cost-effective Valentines day:
  • Find photographs of the two of you throughout your relationship. Put them together into a special album and give this as a gift. You can make a beautiful and smart photo-book here at tesco.com. They cost from £5.
  • If you are poetic, then write the one you love a poem and incorporate it into your Valentines day ecard, print it onto some pretty paper and give it as a gift or hide it somewhere that your loved-one will find it. If you're not poetic, take a look here for some ideas for romantic poems.
  • Plan a special Valentines meal. Make sure to include your guest's favourite food, or if you want to try something different take a browse through BBC food's ideas for Valentines day menu's here.
  • Do one small thing on Valentines day that is unexpected. Send flowers, plan a ad-hoc dinner, meet your loved-one after work and escort them home, buy a bottle of something sparkling to have with dinner (you can get your hands on some great Prosecco's which are much cheaper than champagne and taste fantastic - I actually prefer it to champagne)
  • Dress up your dinner table to look romantic, buy a couple of roses to scatter the petals on the table cloth, rose scented pot-pouri and candles will look fantastic and fairly low cost
  • Get your kids involved! Here are some great tips on how to get your kids involved with this celebration - they can make cards and gift boxes as well as table decorations!
I hope you like these ideas!

How you can take part in the Chinese New Year celebrations. 2012.01.16.

Hi all,

Chinese New Year will take place on the 23rd of January this year and the coming year will be the year of the dragon. In Chinese mythology dragons are signs of power, luck and strength and so I think you will agree that this is a good start to the year!

A great time to send your loved ones Chinese new year e cards and well wishes, this is also a fantastic chance to get involved with the celebrations by visiting a New Years parade (many cities will have street events planned for this occasion click here for some information on what is happening across the globe here) or by holding your own Chinese New Year event.

The legend of the first New Year begins with 'Nian' - a mythical creature that terrorised villages on News Years Day by eating crops, livestock and villagers. People realised that if they left food out for Nian, he would not hunt for anything else. They also realised that the creature was scared of the colour red and from then on, people have left red lanterns and spring rolls outside of their doors to warn Nian away.

Celebrated for a number of days, many famillies will get together for a special meal on new years eve. Traditional food includes fish and chicken dishes, as well as dumplings, mandarin oranges, melon, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, noodles and many other dishes. On this night gifts are also exchanged with friends and relatives and elders will give money to younger generations within red envelopes.

This is a magical celebration full of tradition and myth and great fun to get involved with. If you want to hold your own celebration, here are some ideas of things that you can do:
  • Visit your local Chinese supermarket to buy some red lanterns to hang outside of your home, or if you do not have somewhere you can go locally - there are some beautiful ones available to buy online here at Asianideas.com
  • Make some fact - cards that you can put on your table for your guests to learn about the myths and traditions of the event.  This is a great way to get kids involved in the occasion as well as help them learn about it as they can research the traditions, fill the cards with interesting facts and then decorate them using their new knowledge.
  • Make some of your own fresh and crispy spring rolls. You can hang some outside (kids will love doing that) or just have them with your wonderful dinner. Here is a great recipe I found by Ching-He Huang
  • Make a selection of other traditional dishes to celebrate with your loved ones. Click here for a fantastic list of recipes that you might like, alternatively you could try finding somewhere to buy pre-made food or order in (if you can find anywhere that is open!)
  • An alternative to gift-giving for your guests is to buy red envelopes for each of your dinner guests (you will find them in your local stationary store or if not you can get a great selection here on Amazon) and fill them with some chocolate coins. This is a cheap yet fun way to honor the tradition.
  • Ask your dinner guests to dress in red
  • Add more excitement to your celebration by setting off fireworks (safely) in your garden
I hope you have a fantastic time celebrating!

Please do share any tips of advice by commenting, I love to have your feedback.
