Labour day in Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and South Australia

Hello!

This Monday (the 3rd of October) is Labour day for many Australians in Australians Capital Territory, New South Wales and South Australia. Because of the difference in spelling to the American Labor Day, I am pleased to let you know that we have adapted our Labour day e card so that it can be used by Australians, Canadians and New Zealanders to help them celebrate!

To view the e card, take a look at the Labour day e-card catergory on the Katies Cards website and you will find cards with both versions of the spelling.

Also, don't forget that today is the last day of the Katies Cards competition! Its your last chance to enter to be in with a chance of winning a £15 Amazon voucher so don't delay - enter now! A great website for inspiration!

Hi all!

I like to spend some of my spare time browsing the internet and looking for new ideas and inspiration for  e cards.

I came across this really interesting website that you might like called Daily Design Discovery.

They add a different product, picture, or something of interest every day and recently it has featured an interesting article about an autistic cartoonist in the New York Times, Eames wire-base tables, some sculpture, prints and paintings along with other objects such as the restored vintage typewritters by Kasbah Mod and the Vintage Beacon II/Whitehouse Camera.

Take a look, its a refreshing website and one that you will see something different!

Mmmmmm a lovely Nigella salmon and noodle recipe!

Hi all,

Nick's birthday was a couple of weeks ago now, but I decided to make this lovely Nigella dish for him and it was really delicious so I had to share it with you!

The dish was very aromatic and spicy and had marinated and fried salmon fillets and singapore noodles with vegetables. It had a lot of ingredients but actually didn't take that long to do once I got the preparation of chopping etc done.

(Nigella's) Seared Salmon with Singapore Noodles
You can find the ingredients and method on Nigella's lovely website here. If you don't like samlon I would still encourage you to try it, but you could subsitute the salmon for chicken. I do love Nigella recipes - are you a fan of hers too? Have you got any Nigella or your own favourite recipes that you want to share?

Autumn fun and don't forget the competition!

Hello,

Don't you just love autumn? I do, everyone is back at work/school /university after summer holidays feeling rested and ready to take on challenges of year ahead. Halloween is coming up followed swiftly by Fireworks night!

At the moment in Briton, leaves on the trees are turning into beautiful orangey, red and pink and they are lovely to look at. There is nothing more satisfying than walking though lots of leaves and this season really brings out the child in me and brings back memories of building dens, the excitement of playing outside in the dark, halloween, bonfire night and the anticipation that Christmas is coming! Its a magical time of year!

Racheal's Greek holiday and don't forget to enter the competition!

Hello all!

Racheal is going on holiday for a well deserved break to a Greek island on Sunday for a week. Her 3 months here have been very busy but she has done lots to push forward our e cards, including helping me to make sure I write this blog daily and write interesting things in it!

I have to say I'm rather jealous of her! I could do with a week on a Greek island sunning myself but with Molly and Joe still at school, we can only have a holiday during the school breaks.

Whilst she is away I will be getting on with some new e card designs, looking after the competion and answering e card queries.

I know I have gone on and on about it, but the competition closing date is not until next Friday so please enter. Apart from the fantastic £15 Amazon prize, it is also a chance for you to tell me your opinions and have some input into the new cards that are made.

Once again, all you have to do to enter is to choose your favourite Christmas ecard from our collection and then tell us why you like it on the Katies Cards Facebook page. For clearer instructions please take a look here.

Have a nice weekend!

Rita Hayworth

Its only on until the 23rd of October but I really want to see it. Have you been? If so what did you think?

A beautiful tree in Bushy park and a summer photograph

Hello there,

Summer has moved over to make space for autumn, old news I know, but it's a little sad for us here in Briton, who didn't get the summer we wanted and were drenched with rain for most of it!

I took this photo of a beautiful tree that I walk past every day on my walk with Plum that I want to share with you.

Do you know what type of tree it is? Please comment if you can work it out!

Beautiful tree in Bushy park

The picture was taken on a rare sunny summers day which is why the deer are taking refuge away froom the sun underneath it. I think this tree is beautiful, I love trees with red or dark leaves and couldn't resist taking a picture of it with my phone as I was walking past.

Today is Stepfamily day in the US - and don't forget to enter our competition!

Hello,

Did you know that today is National Stepfamily day in the United States? This day was set up in 1997 by Christy Borgeld who wanted to celebrate and support stepfamillies of the US nation, to help them to support their children and become strong family structures.

I think this is a lovely way to recognise the importance of the effort that many step-parents put into making family-life work and a great day to say thank you if you are part of a blended family.

I love days like these, where some part of life that can usually go unnoticed is brought to peoples attention.

Its almost the weekend! I'm really looking forward to relaxing! The competition has been very successful so far, but it doesn't close until the 30th of September, so if you haven't already, do make sure that you enter it  for your chance to win a £15 Amazon voucher!

Hello,

For many thousands of people across the globe, yesterday was an emotional day. Memorial services took place in New York, all over the US and in London they were all dignified and beautiful.

I can't believe 10 years have passed since that terrible day.

My heart goes out to all who has lost someone because of these terrible acts and I hope you have managed to find happiness and joy after such pain.

I heard some roaring in Bushy park...the deers are heading into rutting season

Hi all,

Today whilst taking Plum for her daily walk in Bushy park, I noticed that the deers are beginning to growl and I realised that they are getting ready to go into the rutting season.

The noise they make is very loud and scary! When Nick and I first heard them we thought there were lions in the park!

You can watch them if you are discreet though you do have to be extra careful because they can be aggressive towards people (and dogs) if you get too close. At the moment, the males are beginning to growl and and will begin sparring soon to find out who is the dominant male of the group and who has mating rights. Males also 'size each other up' by parallel walking, roaring at each other and clashing antlers all of which is a brilliant sight!

This is a very inspiring and exciting time of year and a time when I start to think about Christmas e card ideas. The deers reminded me of the Seasonal Stag Christmas e-card we have to send at Christmas time which really gets me in the mood to cosy up!

UK National Organic Month!

Hi there,

I am a bit late with this news, but (since you are an eco-friendly e-card fan) you might find it useful to know that September is National Organic month here in the UK. The month is one of celebrating organic growth and produce as well the benefits.

You can find more at - National Organic Month which has some great advice and guidance on how to live an organic, eco-friendly lifestyle.

I know its hard to be environmentally friendly and I struggle at times, but I think that as long as I am learning about my choices then I am able to make more good decisions which has its own very small affect on the environment which makes me feel happy.

Lots of blackberries in the UK!

Hi all,

This years weather in the UK has been really unpredictable. We've had a warm spring as well as a really wet and cloudy summer and a lot of us have been moaning about the weather all summer! Mostly, the view has looked like this:

Katie and Joe walking this summer

These conditions, although are miserable, do have a upside. The bad weather has brought with it a swell in blackberries and as well as making more berries this year, the fruit is plumper and juicer than usual! My plans set for this weekend - I am going blackberry picking and I am going to make some beautiful blackberry jam!

Here is a great recipe I have used a few times: Angela's 'flexible jam' recipe.

Hope you like it!

A great website for recipe ideas

Hello,

Sometimes I get bored of cooking the same old recipes week in week out. I look in the fridge and need some inspiration on how to use the ingredients I have but don't want to sit and think about what I am going to cook for a long time, especially working hard on e-cards all day.

If I have a problem or need an idea I have a go at hunting around on the internet to see if I can find something to help and recently came across a great website that I have found very handy. Really Nice Recipes is an online collection of 'really nice recipes' that you can use, but the reason it is unique is because the recipes are catergorise by ingredient which is tremendously helpful, especially when you have some bits and bobs left over from your shop and you don't know what to do with them. You can select whatever it is you want to cook from the menu in the top left and then you will get a list of recipes for that ingredient!

Picture 1

This has been a real help for me - take a look and let me know what you think!
